Amid increasing anti-Muslim sentiments, the UK will be hosting month-long events to mark Islamophobia Awareness Month, counter hate crimes, and share positive contributions of Muslims.

FEED THE POOR

Feeding the poor and needy is an act that draws us closer to Allah. We earn His forgiveness, mercies and blessings through this act of charity.

“Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

The Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) is marked annually in November.

Co-founded by MEND (Muslim Engagement and Development) with other British organizations in 2012, the 10th annual event aims to showcase the positive contributions of Muslims as well as raise awareness of Islamophobia in society.

The theme of this year’s event, “#TacklingDenial,” tackles denial of Islamophobia in different political and social spaces across society.

“Why is tackling denial important? By denying islamophobia’s existence, we dismiss the lived experiences of many and the opportunity to bridge gaps in our society,” IAM website wrote.

This year, several organizations are coordinating with Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC), local councils, journalists, local media outlets, councilors, local MPs, mosques, universities, schools, community organizations and others to raise awareness of the threat of Islamophobia and encourage better reporting of incidents to the police.

Moreover, these events include webinars with key opinion leaders, social media activity, online exhibitions and more.
