In a recent escalation of violence, at least 13 Palestinians were killed and 15 others wounded during Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
The airstrikes targeted a school in Jabalia, where refugees had sought shelter, and a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Israeli military officials claimed that the school was being used as a Hamas command center, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people in that strike.
Another airstrike on the Nuseirat camp killed five more Palestinians, further heightening the violence in the region. These events are part of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has seen a sharp rise in violence since Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. That attack left 1,200 people dead and resulted in the kidnapping of approximately 250 individuals.

Since the conflict reignited, over 40,800 Palestinians have been killed, and much of Gaza’s population, estimated at 2.3 million, has been displaced. The United Nations reports that around 1.9 million people in Gaza are now internally displaced, many having been forced to relocate multiple times due to the ongoing fighting.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical, with no signs of a peaceful resolution on the horizon. Both sides continue to face international pressure to end the violence and seek a diplomatic solution to the long-standing conflict.
