A 42-year-old man has been apprehended following a petrol bomb attack on a mosque in County Down over the weekend, according to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday when a petrol bomb was hurled at a mosque in Newtownards. In addition to the attempted arson, the mosque’s front door and walls were defaced with graffiti.

Following a search of two properties in the area on Sunday, the man was arrested on suspicion of multiple offenses, including attempted arson, possession of a petrol bomb, and attempted intimidation.
The PSNI confirmed that the petrol bomb failed to ignite and has urged the public to come forward with any additional information related to the attack. “Investigations are ongoing, and we appeal to anyone with information or footage that could aid the investigation to contact the police,” a PSNI spokesperson stated.
