After Catastrophic Rain, Green Lane Masjid Raises Funds for Pakistan

Amid catastrophic rains and flooding which have killed at least 1,033 people in Pakistan, including 348 children, a Birmingham mosque has launched an emergency appeal to help those affected.

Green Lane Masjid started collecting donations through Task Force GLM, the humanitarian arm of the mosque.

“Over 34,000 homes have perished! In the hardest hit areas of Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and *Punjab, over 34,000 homes and tens of thousands of livestock have perished,” Green Lane Masjid wrote on Facebook, Birmingham Mail reported.

“In Balochistan alone, over 150,000 people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Across all regions, thousands of vulnerable people are facing internal displacement.

“Our teams are on the ground right now, already working in local communities that urgently need food, shelter, bedding and hygiene items.”

Unusual heavy monsoon rains have caused devastating floods in both the north and south of Pakistan since mid-June, affecting at least 33 million people.

The country’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said at least 1,033 people were killed , including 348 children, and 1,527 more injured.

Earlier this month, several Muslim charities launched appeals to help Pakistan. 

The charities included Islamic Relief, Penny Appeal, Human Appeal, and Helping Hands for Relief and Development.
