Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Huddersfield North and South collectively organised the King’s coronation celebration at the Baitus Samad Mosque on 6 May 2023.

The event’s preparation began several weeks in advance, with the establishment of an organising committee.

The event started at 11am with the recitation from the Holy Quran with its English translation, followed by a welcome address and introduction to the event by Fatihul Haq Sahib, Secretary of External Affairs, Huddersfield South. This was followed by a presentation delivered by Yousaf Aftab Sahib, outlining some facts about His Majesty King Charles III with a quiz to engage the audience. It was also highlighted why we hold such events, and Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V’saa message to the King was read out.

In his message, Huzooraa underscores the value of religious freedom, commending King Charles for his suppor of this principle. He expresses hope that the King’s coronation could unite people from diverse nations, cultivating trust and mutual understanding in society and among nations. Additionally, he prays for the King’s protection and well-being, seeking God’s grace and benevolence. He prays for a reign for the King characterised by peace and global prosperity. Huzooraa also emphasises the ongoing necessity of justice, tolerance, and freedom of belief, urging these principles to continue guiding future actions and decisions.

Huzoor’saa message, which resonates with an enduring plea for unity and peace, was appreciated by the guests.

Jason McCartney, MP for Colne Valley and member of the APPG for Jamaat persecution, also made an address. Jim Griffiths, Superintendent of West Yorkshire Police, addressed the audience, and key messages were received from the Archbishop of York and Lord Lieutenant. They all outlined how interfaith communities could achieve lasting peace, starting at the individual to community level, and the importance of attending such events. Mr McCartney stated that he was excited about the work Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya does and advocates the work of the Jamaat locally and nationally. He thanked the Jamaat for its positive contributions to society.

Amir Shehzad Sahib, the president of Huddersfield South Jamaat, brought the event to a close by thanking everyone for attending and participating.

The event was brought to a close with a du‘a.

This was followed by refreshments. Games, a henna stall, and bake sales were organised by Lajna Imaillah, and money was raised for the local food bank. Food was distributed to families that couldn’t attend and also to homeless members as part of the occasion.

There were about 100 people in attendance, ranging from interfaith representatives to local councillors, church representatives, and neighbours. Short interviews were taken with all key dignitaries, and the whole event was video recorded. The event was covered by local and regional media.

Information about the event was posted on social media. Many positive messages were received from guests about the event, including requests to attend future events.
