Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh [India], January 10: A bomb threat sent via email to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has triggered a swift response from university officials and law enforcement agencies. The email, which included a demand for a ransom of ₹2 lakh, prompted an extensive security sweep across the campus.
Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey stated that AMU authorities promptly alerted the police after receiving the threatening email. “Upon being informed, we deployed a bomb disposal squad, dog unit, and cyber teams to ensure the safety of the campus. All critical and isolated areas have been thoroughly searched,” he said, adding that cyber teams are actively tracing the origin of the email.
So far, no suspicious items have been found during the campus-wide search operation. Speaking on the matter, AMU Proctor Professor Mohd Wasim Ali reassured the university community of their safety. “We immediately reported the threat to the police, who are now conducting a detailed investigation. The email also demanded ₹2 lakh as ransom, but the sender’s identity remains unknown at this stage,” he said.
