Arbaeen processions have officially begun in Tehran and various other cities across Iran, coinciding with similar gatherings held in numerous countries worldwide. For those unable to travel to Karbala, Iraq, this year, symbolic walks are taking place to mark the 40th day following Ashura — the historic day in 680 CE when Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and his loyal companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala.
The Islamic Development Coordination Council in Tehran issued a statement on Thursday, emphasizing that the Arbaeen march is a declaration against global oppression and injustice. The statement strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities committed by the “child-killing Zionist regime” against the people of Gaza, with the backing of the United States. It also honored the memory of those martyred in Iran during the 12-day defense against the same regime and its allies earlier this year. The council described Arbaeen as a global message of freedom, resistance, and unity.

Hossein Zat Ali, an elderly resident of Tehran, began his day by offering free rides to Arbaeen pilgrims. Speaking to Mehr News, he shared, “This is my fourth year providing transportation for the marchers. I haven’t been able to travel to Karbala for the past four years, but before that, I made the journey 12 times — from the era of the American occupation forces until recent years. Today, I serve in my own way, for the sake of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).”
This year’s Arbaeen commemorations in Iran once again showcase the enduring spirit of unity, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the legacy of Imam Hussein.
