Aussie Muslims Cook Meals for Exhausted Firefighters

Members of a local Australian Muslim group traveled to a fire-ravaged town in Australia over the weekend to support exhausted firefighters amid devastating blazes, the Daily Mail Australia reported.

“Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

“It was very emotional to see how tired and drained they were,” volunteer Lookman El Kurdi, from the Newport Islamic Society, said.

“They
were just exhausted. It felt really good to at least give them a feed and prey
for them and show we are thinking about them.”

He added:
“We were seeing all these bushfires that were happening around Australia
and felt we needed to do something. We put the call out and within 48 hours we
had collected so many items.”

The Newport Islamic society went to the aid of Johnsonville Volunteer Fire Brigade in East Gippsland after seeing the devastating effect of the blazes.

They
arrived to cook sausages for the firefighters, who were exhausted after
tackling the flames for over a week.

Along with cooking for the volunteers, the group also brought five truckloads of items to be used in the area.

According to the 2016 Australian Census, the number of
Muslims in Australia constituted 604,200 people, or 2.6% of the total
Australian population, an increase of over 15% of its previous population share
of 2.2% reported in the previous census 5 years.

Australian Muslims have come together to help people affected by bushfires which continue to wreak havoc on many parts of the country, destroying homes and wildlife and affecting the lives of thousands.

Last month, the Islamic Society of South Australia kicked off a new crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the members of the local community affected by bushfires.

In December and November, a group of Muslim men drove for five hours to host a free barbecue for bushfire victims.

Earlier in November, a Southern Queensland town received a massive donation of tonnes of hay from Muslim
Aid Australian charity.
