Centre Aims for Lawful Functioning of Waqf Boards, Not Control: JP Nadda Clarifies

BJP National President JP Nadda on Sunday reaffirmed that the central government has no intention of exerting control over Waqf Boards but seeks to ensure their operations remain lawful and transparent. Speaking at the BJP’s 46th Foundation Day celebrations held at the party headquarters in New Delhi, Nadda emphasized that the focus is on accountability and proper utilization of Waqf assets for the welfare of the Muslim community.

Highlighting global examples, Nadda noted, “In several countries like Turkey, the government has assumed direct responsibility for Waqf properties. However, in India, our approach is different — we are not looking to take over but to ensure rules are followed.”

He stressed that the government’s primary objective is to see Waqf resources directed towards meaningful development — particularly in education, healthcare, and job creation for Muslims.

“We are simply urging the Waqf Boards to function in accordance with established laws. There is no interference — only a demand for rule-based administration,” Nadda stated.

Before addressing the gathering of party workers and leaders, Nadda hoisted the BJP flag at the headquarters to commemorate the party’s founding day.
