Mecca, Saudi Arabia — In a move to enhance the experience for pilgrims visiting the Grand Mosque, Saudi authorities have introduced a free luggage storage service for Muslims performing Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage.
The Saudi General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques has set up designated storage facilities in two key areas of the Grand Mosque’s courtyards. These storage points are located in the eastern courtyard near the Mecca Library and the western courtyard, providing easy access for worshippers.
To use this service, pilgrims must adhere to a set of guidelines. The primary requirement is to present an Umrah permit obtained through the Nusuk app. Additionally, the service prohibits storing valuables or items classified as restricted.

The service allows for luggage storage for up to four hours per session, strictly limited to bags weighing no more than 7 kilograms. Storing food or medication is also not permitted. Pilgrims must present their delivery card to retrieve their belongings upon completion of their visit.
In a bid to improve convenience further, plans are underway to expand the number of storage locations to cover all main entry points to the Grand Mosque. This initiative aims to provide worshippers with a seamless experience, enabling them to perform their rituals without the burden of carrying luggage.
The current Umrah season, which operates throughout the year, commenced in late June following the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage. This storage service marks another step by the Saudi authorities to enhance the spiritual journey for millions of visitors to Islam’s holiest site.
