Concerned Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago Launch Urgent Relief Mission to Hurricane-Hit Jamaica

A dedicated team from the Concerned Muslims of Trinidad and Tobago (CMTT) has departed for Jamaica to deliver emergency relief following the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Melissa, which recently caused widespread devastation across the island.

According to CMTT officials, the two-member delegation will immediately begin on-the-ground assessments in affected communities, collaborate with local partners, and purchase emergency supplies from Kingston-based wholesalers. The first round of aid distribution is scheduled to begin within 24 hours of arrival.

In addition to relief distribution, the CMTT representatives will meet with Jamaican government agencies and Islamic Relief Worldwide partners to coordinate logistics, secure warehouse facilities, and finalize official approvals for incoming humanitarian shipments from Trinidad and Tobago.

Speaking on the mission, Imtiaz Mohammed, CMTT’s Public Relations Officer, expressed deep concern for those affected by the hurricane and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to providing timely assistance.

“Whenever disaster strikes, it is our moral and humanitarian duty to stand with the victims. Our goal is to help the people of Jamaica rebuild their comfort, dignity, and stability,” Mohammed said.

Earlier this week, the organization formally launched the Jamaica Disaster and Emergency Relief Project, aimed at sending large-scale aid containers to Jamaica within the next two to four weeks. The relief effort is a joint initiative supported by Islamic Relief partners in the UK, the US, and Canada.

CMTT confirmed that coordination with local authorities is already underway to ensure tax-free clearance of humanitarian supplies and the smooth transportation of essential goods to the hardest-hit areas.

Mohammed also appealed to the public to respond urgently to the call for support:

“We have shared a list of priority items and financial donation details on our social media pages. Every contribution counts, no matter how small—it can bring hope to a family in distress.”

The organization assured that continuous updates will be shared as relief activities progress and more information is received from field teams in Jamaica.

For those wishing to support the initiative, donations and inquiries can be made through CMTT’s official website, email, or verified social media platforms.
