As we know, dogs are one of the animals that are forbidden in Islam. Muslims are forbidden to consume dog meat as the Apostle said,

    From Abi Tsa’labah, he said,

“Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam forbade eating every beast fanged.” (HR. Bukhari no. 5530 dan Muslim no. 1932)

    From Ibnu ‘Abbas, he said,

“Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam forbade eating every fanged beast, and every kind of bird that had nails for gripping.” (HR. Muslim no. 1934)

An Nawawi rahimahullah in Syarh Muslim said,

“The meaning of fangs is -according Syafi’iyah- scholars, the canines were used for hunting (prey). ”

Animals used for hunting prey are certainly dogs. Therefore, dogs are forbidden to eat. Besides forbidden to be eaten, dogs are also forbidden to be traded.

From Abu Mas’ud Al Anshori, he said,

“Rasulullah sallallaahu‘ alayhi wa sallam truly prohibits the wages of buying and selling dogs, wages of prostitutes and the wages of fortune tellers. “(Narrated by Bukhari no. 2237)

In addition, the dog saliva is also a heavy unclean in Islam. If we are exposed to dog saliva, even if a little, then we are obliged to clean it. Unlike the other impure washed enough by using water just to remove the impurity. Impure from the saliva of dogs must be cleaned in a special way that is using water and soil.

From Abu Hurairah, Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,

“Purify your vessel when the dog drinks it, by washing seven times. First laundry with dust (dust).” (Muslim no. 279).

From the hadith ‘Abdullah bin Mughaffal, Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,

“If the dog licks your laver, wash it seven times and rub the eighth with dust.” (HR. Muslim no. 280).

This method is done if exposed to saliva, blood, and dog urine. It might sound troublesome, but Islam always provides benefits from every command and rule in it. So it is with this rule. Islam commands the cleaning up of this unclean dog so that Muslims are accustomed to avoiding dogs.

Dogs are one of the animals that are forbidden in Islam. With the weight of cleaning the body affected by saliva or dog urine, it is expected that a Muslim away from dogs. Yes, we were forbidden to keep a dog if it has no purpose. It has been described by the Apostle directly.

Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,

“Who keep dogs, except dog to guard livestock, hunting and keeping the plants, it will be reduced reward every day as much as one qirath “(HR. Muslim, no. 1575).

    [AdSense-B]

Even in another history it is stated that the reduced reward can reach 2 qirath.

“Whoever uses a dog, not for the purpose of guarding livestock or is not intended to be trained as a dog to hunt, then every day the reward is reduced by two qiraths” (HR. Bukhari no. 5480 and Muslim no. 1574).

Therefore, we should avoid making contact with dogs. In addition to being unclean and difficult to clean, dogs are also illegal animals to eat because they are wild animals. Follow what the Apostle rules as he gives us his will,

“Whoever uses a dog, not for the purpose of guarding livestock or is not intended to be trained as a dog to hunt, then every day the reward is reduced by two qiraths” (HR. Bukhari no. 5480 and Muslim no. 1574).

Therefore, we should avoid to make contact with the dog. Besides unclean and difficult to clean, dogs also includes an unclean animal to be eaten because it includes wild animals. Follow what the Apostle rules as he gives us his will

“Know, in fact I was given Al-Qur’an and something like him (As Sunnah). Then there was a man who was in a state of satiation sitting in his chair saying, “You must hold fast to the Qur’an! What you get in the Qur’an from halal matters is lawful. And what you get in the Qur’an from the haram is forbidden. Just know! It is not permissible for you to tame donkey meat, fanged wild beasts and findings belonging to the infidels of mu’ahid (infidels in the promise of protection of Islamic rulers, and Muslim belongings more important) unless the owner does not need them. And whoever stops at a people they should provide a place, if not give a place should give treatment in accordance with the attitude of their meal. “(Narrated by Abu Daud no. 4604. Shaykh Al Albani said that this hadith is authentic).

May we all be kept away from all forms of haram and always be in the line of pious people. Aamiin.
