Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, many of the low-income families in the US have suffered lack of access to the basic needs.

Feeding the poor and needy is an act that draws us closer to Allah. We earn His forgiveness, mercies and blessings through this act of charity.

“Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

A leading American Muslim charity is working to change this by providing help.

The Islamic Circle of North America Relief has begun distributing hundreds of free backpacks filled with school supplies as well as free pizzas in New Jersey, Tap Into New Jersey reported.

The event is part of ICNA’s One Nation One Cause Back2School Giveaway Campaign, now in its 11th year.

Developed by ICNA Relief USA, it aims to meet the needs of students across the United States by providing them with a free backpack filled with supplies.

The effort is the result of cooperation between the Jersey City Policeman’s Benevolent Association (JCPOBA) and the Muslim American Law Enforcement Association (MALEA).

“There is no disputing that providing every child a quality education is the best way to make our communities safer,” Carmine Disbrow, President of the JCPOBA, said.

“We are proud to be a part of this effort, that not only has 400 children more prepared for a challenging school year, but also recognizes the diversity of our city.”

ICNA is one of the largest, non-profit, grassroots Muslim organizations in North America. It has many projects, programs, and activities designed to help in reforming society at large.

Since 1968, ICNA has worked to build relations between communities by devoting itself to education, outreach, social services, and relief efforts.

In 2018, 50,000 children benefited from backpacks with school supplies distributed across more than 110 cities, with over 220 partners, in 35 states and Puerto Rico.
