His Educational Background
Dr Mufti Menk is a leading global Islamic scholar born and raised in Zimbabwe. He studied Shariah in Madinah and holds a Doctorate of Social Guidance from Aldersgate University.
His Style & Approach
Mufti Menk’s personal and down-to-earth personality in his lectures made him to be one of the most sought-after Islamic scholars in recent times. His lecture series, a Mufti Menk trademark, are widely watched on Youtube and other social media platforms and have quickly gained attention and popularity across the globe.
As I was working on this write-up, I received news that the Singapore government decided to ban Mufti Menk from coming to the country for safety reasons pertaining to his thoughts on greeting believers of other faiths during festivals such as Christmas and Deepavali. It took me some time to decide if I should proceed posting this, and I decided to do so.
When I first started, one of the objectives of QOI is to share the beauty of Islam through meaningful quotes and words of wisdom, in line with the teachings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and the words of Allah s.w.t in the Holy Quran.
Mufti Menk has long been advocating peace & tolerance in his lectures and his words of wisdom has benefited many Muslims around the world today. Now – don’t get me wrong that I’m siding on his thoughts above-mentioned. In fact, I don’t – if it holds true. Especially in countries like Singapore which thrives for the past 52 years in a multi-racial and multi-religious society, any ideologies that aim to cause divide among societies have to be taken seriously and necessary actions have to been taken.
However, I feel there’s plenty of positive takeaways we can learn from his lectures which is invaluable not to share with you guys. Whether or not his words hold true or merely being taken out of context, I’m not here to pass judgement nor I would like to. Importantly, we can identify the positives and filter out the negatives, where deem necessary.
Mufti Menk Quotes (On Love)
One of the most sincere forms of love and care is when someone prays for you without you ever knowing. Be that beautiful someone.
We love ourselves after so many mistakes, so why do we hate others for one or two mistakes they’ve made?
Always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.
Mufti Menk Quotes (On Marriage)
The type of person you marry plays a big role in the type of children you have, so do your unborn children a favour by choosing wisely.
There are people who might not appear to be the best of Muslims but their struggle to gain the love of their Maker is far greater than those who may appear to be the best of Muslims.
Mufti Menk Quotes (On Friendship)
“Love your friend moderately lest he becomes your enemy one day, and hate your enemy moderately lest he becomes your friend one day!” [Tirmidhi] When we get extremely close to people and lower our guard by letting them know every detail of our life, trusting them with everything, a day can come when we regret because they can hold us ransom with what they know about us if the friendship is broken for some reason. At times we cannot correct people because we have allowed them to get so close to us that they would use against us some of what they know of us.
The greatest of friends are those who are truthful enough to correct us and advise us even when it is very bitter to digest.
When the sun’s up, there’ll many ‘friends’ around. Try counting how many remain when clouds gather and a storm breaks. Know a true friend.
Your faith is your tree of life. The deeper the roots, the stronger the faith. Water the tree with good deeds; or it’ll wither and die.

If you turn to the Almighty each time you face a calamity, Satan’s effort to depress you will weaken because of your strong link with Him.
The Almighty is more Merciful than a mother is to her child. So no matter what mistakes you’ve made, return to Him with regret and repent.
In one narration, the hadith says “Allah tests you according to how much he loves you”, when he loves you more, he tests you more.
Mufti Menk Quotes (On Women & Mothers)
Being so kind, polite and cheerful towards the women of the world holds no value when we cannot be such to our own wives, sisters and mothers.
Your daughter is entrusted to you by the Almighty, so look after her well. But your daughter in law is entrusted to you BOTH the Almighty as well as her family, so fulfill the trust with greater care.
Don’t like stretch marks on your wife after pregnancy?
Do you know what men are guilty of? They don’t realize that the stretch marks on the belly of the woman, those are actually signs of contributing to the Ummah of Muhammad SAW. Wallahi, they are signs of jihad. They are signs of a huge sacrifice. May Allah SAW grant us the ability to understand that those marks are actually the marks that might take the woman to Jannah. May Allah SAW take them to Jannah Insya’Allah.
When you see a female dressed in a manner in a manner that is unacceptable Islamically, do not for a moment think that she is lower than you spiritually. If you do that, you are lower than her. Believe me, that is the teaching of your religion. She might have a link with her creator that you do not know about. She might have a heart that is tons better than yours. She might have one weakness that is outward, and you have 50 weaknesses that are hidden.

Pain is there for a reason. It will soften your heart. It will draw you closer to the Almighty.
Tonight before we get into bed, say a prayer for those without a bed, without a roof above their head, clothing or a morsel with which to be fed.
At times, the hurt is so bad that the scars won’t ever fade away. Don’t despair. Confide in the Almighty. He’s All Compassionate.
When the pain becomes unbearable, don’t despair. Let the Almighty take over and mend your heart. You’ll bounce back stronger and better.
A word of truth that may hurt for a while is better than a lie that will hurt for a lifetime.
The reality is no one truly knows how much a person is hurting. You could be with someone who’s totally broken without ever knowing it.
When you give the Quran, the importance it is supposed to be having, it combats your sadness without you realizing.
Mufti Menk Quotes (On Respecting Others)
We have not similar views on things. That’s alright. We don’t have to agree with every choice a person makes but say it respectfully.

Just like one tree makes a million matchsticks, yet when the time comes then only a single match is needed to burn a million trees.
“Knowledge is an ocean that has no coast.” So if anyone thinks they know it all, then what they have is something besides knowledge. Keep swimming!
