Iran has urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency meeting following a controversial proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Gaza Strip. According to a statement from Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi made the request during a phone conversation with Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
The call for urgent discussions comes in response to Trump’s February 4 statement, in which he suggested that the United States should take control of Gaza and relocate its Palestinian population to other regions. The plan, which he framed as an effort to turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” has been met with strong international backlash.
Governments and leaders worldwide have condemned the proposal, including officials from Palestine, Arab nations, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Critics argue that the plan disregards Palestinian sovereignty and threatens regional stability.

Araghchi denounced the proposal as part of a broader “colonial agenda” aimed at undermining Palestine’s existence. He stressed that the OIC, established to advocate for Palestinian rights and the status of Jerusalem, must act swiftly to address the issue and take a firm stand against the plan.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Araghchi called for a unified response from Muslim-majority nations to oppose what he described as a serious threat to Palestinian self-determination. He urged immediate and decisive action to counter any efforts to alter Gaza’s demographic and political landscape.
Echoing these concerns, Tunisian Foreign Minister Nafti reaffirmed that Gaza and the West Bank are integral parts of Palestine. He reiterated Tunisia’s rejection of any plan that seeks to displace Palestinians or compromise their territorial rights, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable under international law.
The call for an emergency OIC session underscores the growing urgency among Muslim nations to respond to geopolitical moves that could further complicate the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The outcome of the proposed meeting remains to be seen, but diplomatic efforts are expected to intensify in the coming days.
