    Islamic Charities Helped Millions of People in 2021: Report

    Leading Islamic charities have assisted millions of people in countries arounds the world during the year 2021, overcoming challenges of increasing hunger, COVID pandemic, and climate change.

    “If 2020 was the year in which we were first confronted with the challenges of Covid-19, 2021 was when the profound and lasting human and economic impact of the pandemic became clear for all to see,” said Waseem Ahmad, CEO of Islamic Relief in the annual report released earlier this month.

    “Supporting those worst affected has been at the heart of Islamic Relief’s work, alongside responding to the climate emergency and the enduring effects of protracted crises and conflicts in places like Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and beyond.”

    The charity’s annual report, released on July 19, said that despite the worldwide economic uncertainty, supporters gave generously, raising £183 million for life-saving and life-changing work around the world.

    Islamic Relief spent £84 million on almost 430 emergency projects in 2021. It has also responded to some of the world’s most devastating crises, including earthquakes in Indonesia and Pakistan, floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a cyclone in Somalia.

    Another charity, Helping Hands for Relief and Development, has also helped around 11 million people in 2021.

    “This past year has shown the compassion that lies within as we celebrate the impact made in the lives of over 11 million people,” Javaid Siddiqi, CEO of Helping Hand for Relief and Development, said in the annual report.

    “At Helping Hand for Relief and Development, we strongly believe in mutual respect, equity and justice, honesty and transparency and care for all. These core values are the guidelines of operations as we enter our 18th year of service,” he added.

    HHRD is a global humanitarian relief and development organization responding to human sufferings in emergency and disaster situations around the world.

    On the other hand, a group of British Muslim doctors and activists founded London-based Islamic Relief charity in 1984, united towards a common goal of a kinder, fairer world.

    In its 39th year, the charity celebrated decades of work to sustain both Islamic and humanitarian values to help people lead empowered and dignified lives across the world.
