In a deadly assault on Monday, Islamist militants disguised in burkas stormed a police office in northwestern Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of three police officers and one civilian. The attack took place at a district police complex that houses both the police headquarters and a residential area.
The militants, armed and wearing suicide vests, launched their assault in the remote area, prompting a prolonged standoff with security forces. Provincial police chief Akhtar Hayat confirmed that after several hours of intense fighting, all five attackers were killed by police forces.
The Pakistani Taliban, a group that has previously carried out similar attacks, claimed responsibility for the assault. The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region, where militants have frequently targeted police and security personnel.
