The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Wednesday that they successfully carried out an airstrike targeting and killing a key Hezbollah operative in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa region.
In an official statement, the IDF identified the individual as Hossam Qasem Ghorab, accusing him of orchestrating militant activity across the Syrian border.
“On Tuesday evening, Israeli aircraft struck Hossam Qasem Ghorab—a Hezbollah terrorist who was operating from Lebanese soil to direct terror cells active in Syria,” the statement read.
According to Israeli military intelligence, the Syria-based groups under Ghorab’s command had been preparing coordinated rocket attacks aimed at Israel’s Golan Heights, a region under Israeli control since it was annexed following the 1967 Six-Day War.
This targeted operation comes amid increasing international focus on Hezbollah’s activities along the Lebanese-Israeli frontier.
Lebanese Cabinet Moves Toward Disarming Hezbollah
The airstrike coincided with a major development in Lebanon’s domestic policy. On Tuesday, the Lebanese cabinet assigned its national army the task of drafting a strategy to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year.
