Kuwait has taken a significant step toward enhancing judicial cooperation among Islamic nations by hosting a two-day high-level forum dedicated to discussions on the International Islamic Court of Justice. The event, which commenced on Tuesday, brought together representatives from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to deliberate on the court’s role and encourage wider ratification of its statute, according to a press release from the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA).
Delivering the opening address, Justice Saleh Al-Raqdan, Deputy Chairman of Kuwait’s Supreme Judicial Council, underscored Kuwait’s unwavering support for the establishment of the International Islamic Court of Justice. He emphasized that the court would serve as a crucial platform for resolving disputes among Islamic countries, fostering justice, and upholding the principles of rights and equality. He expressed optimism that the forum would yield actionable recommendations to fortify judicial integrity across the Islamic world.
Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Kuwait’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the significance of this forum as a testament to Kuwait’s commitment to operationalizing the International Islamic Court of Justice. He stressed the importance of continuous dialogue and collaborative efforts to overcome mutual challenges and construct a robust Islamic legal framework rooted in fairness, equity, and justice.

Organized by the OIC General Secretariat in partnership with Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the forum features contributions from leading international legal experts specializing in judicial affairs on both regional and global levels. Discussions are expected to produce key recommendations that will be presented to the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, aimed at expediting the activation and effectiveness of the International Islamic Court of Justice.
