Renowned Islamic scholar and Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Kaduna State, Alhaji Jafaru Makarfi, has passed away at the age of 93.
The respected Islamic leader, who was also a retired public servant, died on Saturday evening in Kaduna, according to a family announcement by Suleman Abdulkadir.
Makarfi was a significant figure in the Nigerian Muslim community, leaving a lasting legacy of service and dedication. During his lifetime, he also served as a commissioner in the former Kaduna State, contributing significantly to public administration.

Suleman Abdulkadir shared details of his exceptional career, noting that Makarfi was a veteran of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), where he began his service in 1950. His distinguished tenure spanned over four decades, culminating in a historic achievement as the first Northerner to assume the position of District Superintendent in the Western District of the NRC.
Funeral prayers for the late leader are scheduled to take place on Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna.
Jafaru Makarfi is survived by six children.
“We convey our heartfelt condolences to his family, close associates, JNI, and the entire Muslim Ummah,” Abdulkadir said in his statement.
Makarfi’s passing marks the end of a life dedicated to faith, community service, and leadership. His contributions will be remembered by many, leaving a legacy that inspires generations to come.
