Media Must Uphold Islamic Values and Safeguard National Interests

Technology, driven by the rapid growth of social media, has reached every household across the globe. While it has successfully connected people and transformed the world into a global village, the responsibility lies with users to ensure it is used for positive purposes.

Today, people have unprecedented opportunities to communicate, exchange knowledge, and access information instantly. In this era, media — especially social media — has emerged as one of the most influential tools in shaping public opinion, guiding thought processes, and defining the future of societies. More than politics or economics, media now holds significant sway over human psychology and intellect.

The Dual Nature of Media

If used constructively, mass media can become a powerful driver of growth, progress, and unity. However, when misused, it can contribute to moral decline, societal division, and intellectual stagnation. Media’s role is not limited to sharing news; it plays a critical part in nearly every aspect of human life.

Media and Afghan Society

For Afghans, it is essential that media — in all its forms — be used to defend Islamic values, protect the Islamic system, and promote national interests. The preservation of faith and culture is only possible when media channels convey authentic religious messages, spread sound knowledge, and deliver accurate information that nurtures intellect and safeguards society.

Thus, media is more than a communication tool; it stands as a vital front in achieving Islamic and national objectives.

Lessons from the Past

Afghanistan’s recent history shows how external influences sought to reshape Afghan identity. During the two decades of foreign presence, Western powers imposed cultural models alien to Islamic and Afghan traditions. While promoting their so-called “nation-building” project, they simultaneously waged a cultural invasion, attempting to divert Afghans from their faith and heritage.

Despite these efforts, Afghans resisted. America’s withdrawal ultimately confirmed the failure of this imposed agenda, as the Afghan people collectively rejected foreign cultural impositions and defended their values until the end.

The Way Forward

Afghan media today carries a responsibility greater than ever before. It must strengthen religious identity, safeguard cultural traditions, and use social media platforms as instruments for serving the nation’s collective interests. By promoting Islamic values and authentic education, Afghan media can ensure that society develops in line with its faith, culture, and aspirations.
