The Melaka state government is undertaking a thorough review of the directive issued by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, regarding the volume of mosque loudspeakers.
Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh emphasized the state’s commitment to adhering to the royal decree, noting that Sultan Ibrahim, as the Head of Islam for Penang, Melaka, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territories, holds significant influence over Islamic practices in these regions.

“We are currently refining our approach and considering His Majesty’s directive in the context of Melaka,” said Ab Rauf Yusoh. “We will adhere to local circumstances and welcome input from stakeholders.”
He made these remarks during a press conference at the state assembly sitting at Seri Negeri.
Sultan Ibrahim’s directive specifies that the adhan (call to prayer) should remain loud at prayer times, while the volume for Quran recitations, prayers, and religious lectures should be confined within the mosque premises.
