In response to concerns about the proposed demolition of the Central Mosque in Takum, Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has clarified that the move is part of a larger development plan aimed at improving the community, including the welfare of the local Muslim population.
Governor Kefas, through his Special Adviser on Muslim Religious Matters, Hussaini Isma’il, made this clarification on Monday in Jalingo, the state’s capital. The governor emphasized that the demolition is intended to foster progress and unity within the region.
In a statement, the governor said the decision has been welcomed by many within the community, as it aligns with the state’s commitment to advancement. He also cautioned the Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria (KYN) against using the situation for political gain and urged them not to divert the attention of the Muslim community in Takum.
Any demolition that occurs is to ensure the development and welfare of our Muslim brothers and sisters in Takum and beyond,” the statement read.

Addressing the rumors, Kefas reassured the public that the initiative is in the best interest of the Muslim community. He described any circulating falsehoods regarding the demolition as unfounded and urged residents to ignore them. The governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to creating a more inclusive and prosperous state for all citizens.
The governor’s remarks followed concerns raised by the Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria (KYN), which voiced opposition to the urban development plans, particularly the demolition of the mosque, which they described as a significant religious site for Muslims in the area.
Governor Kefas, however, reaffirmed that the decision to proceed with the demolition was made with the well-being of the Muslim community in mind, not just in Takum but throughout the state.
“To all Muslim brothers and sisters across Nigeria, especially those in Taraba and Takum local government councils, I urge you to ignore any baseless rumors. This administration is committed to the development and support of the Muslim community, both here and across the state,” the governor said.
The clarification from Governor Kefas aims to calm tensions and ensure that the public understands the broader goals of the state’s urban renewal efforts.
