Muslim Group Launches Virtual Ramadan Campaign

As the clock ticks towards the start of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide anticipate the holy month with closed mosques for the first time.

Though mosques were shut to prevent the spread of the
coronavirus pandemic, a Canadian Muslim group is seeking novel ways to
celebrate the month.

On Monday, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada launched a national campaign, inviting Canadians to experience Ramadan online.

“Essentially, we’ll be hosting a live Zoom [conference call] that will be broadcasted on YouTube, where imams across the country can answer questions,” said Safwan Choudhry, a spokesperson for Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada, Montreal CTV news reported.

Along with online prayer, the group plans to host a national virtual iftar to allow Canadian Muslims to exchange food.

“Ramadan’s primary concept is charity and making financial
sacrifices,” said Choudhry.

on is helping neighbors, particularly elders and those in need during the

officially participating in the month-long online festivities. 

Ramadan is the 9th month of the Hijri Islamic calendar. It
commemorates the first revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad.
