A total of 732 orphans in Sokoto State received scholarships worth N1 billion from the Muslim World League on Friday. The disbursement, aimed at improving the lives of the less privileged, was inaugurated by Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
During the event, Governor Aliyu highlighted the importance of the scholarship, stating that it complements the government’s efforts to uplift vulnerable groups in the state.
“When we assumed office, we made it a priority to support orphans and vulnerable groups. Our administration has increased the financial allocations to orphanages and boosted monthly stipends for individuals with disabilities,” the governor explained.
Aliyu expressed his deep gratitude to the Muslim World League for their generous initiative and also praised Senator Aliyu Wamakko, a member of the League, for his ongoing dedication to helping the less privileged. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working closely with the League to enhance the well-being of the people of Sokoto.

Senator Wamakko, who chaired the distribution event, shed light on the delay in disbursing the scholarships, explaining that sanctions imposed by Western nations on certain international organizations had caused the hold-up. He assured that the scholarship program will continue in the future.
Out of 1,146 registered orphans in Sokoto, 732 beneficiaries—comprising both males and females—were carefully selected from 15 local government areas, including Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Wamakko, Silame, and Bodinga, among others.
The event’s highlight was the presentation of an award of excellence to Senator Wamakko for his outstanding contributions to advancing the League’s mission.
This scholarship initiative underscores the ongoing commitment to support and uplift vulnerable members of society, particularly orphans, across Sokoto State.
