Syria entered the year 2026 under the shadow of uncertainty, but one act of courage has captured the nation’s attention. Mohamed Massat, a Muslim police officer stationed in Aleppo, was killed on New Year’s Eve after stopping a planned terrorist attack aimed at Christian worshippers.
Massat, who had welcomed his first child—a baby girl—only ten days earlier, is now being remembered across Syria as a national hero. His actions prevented what authorities say could have been a devastating attack during a major Christian celebration.
Deadly Encounter at Aleppo Security Checkpoint
The incident occurred at a security checkpoint in the Bab al-Faraj district of Aleppo, a busy area near places of worship and public gatherings. According to security sources, Officer Massat became suspicious of a man approaching the checkpoint and attempted to verify his identity.
