Muslim students at the University of New Haven have coordinated several drives to provide help for those affected by the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkiye and Syria this month.

The members of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) held two events to collect donations including gently used clothes, blankets, as well as medical supplies, Charger Bulletin reported.

Youssef Ossama, MSA vice president and junior marketing major, said MSA “received over nine full bags of donations.”

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Turkiye and Syria last February 6. So far, it has claimed more than 45,000 lives.

Ossama understands that many students cannot often commit to donating.

“We’re college students. We don’t want to [ask too much] of students,” he said.

For those that were able to help, no matter how big or small the contribution, Ossama would like to “thank everyone that donated to both drives”.

“[MSA] is very happy and very grateful for it and hopefully we get that support for every single drive that we have,” he said.
