FEED THE POOR

Feeding the poor and needy is an act that draws us closer to Allah. We earn His forgiveness, mercies and blessings through this act of charity.

“Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

Yet, for Muslim students in Derby, the upcoming October mid-term gave them an opportunity to help those impacted by the high cost of living in their town, Derby Telegraph reported.

Cooperating with Tarka restaurant, members of Derby’s Young Muslim Organization will serve free food for all school children from Monday, October 24, until Friday, October 28.

“The Young Muslim Organization this half-term is serving free food for all school children,” the group said.

“We understand the cost of living crisis is affecting everyone. All children from all faiths and backgrounds welcome.”

The initiative has received a positive response across social media.

One Instagram user said: “Credit to the community of Derby,” while another added: “Well done team for setting this up, if only we could encourage more businesses to do something similar.”

Generosity and charity are generally blessed in Islamic Shari`ah.

A similar initiative to help the less fortunate was led by 13 young members of the Muslim community in Derry, North Ireland, who successfully raised about £800 to help a local food bank during Ramadan.
