Completing the fast of the last day of Ramadan, Umar Raza was on his way to get something to eat for iftar when he received a request from an Oldham mum who wanted to deliver an urgent message to her son.

Seeing the concerned mother, who couldn’t reach her son, he decided to accept the job and deliver the message, Oldham Times reported.

The mother later posted a message on Oldham Neighborhood to thank the kind driver for assistance.

“An appreciation post for a wonderful man,” she wrote.

“I had an urgent message to be delivered to my son in Oldham late yesterday evening as I was unable to get in touch with him. I couldn’t get there myself so ordered an Uber to deliver the message for me (paid of course).

“Two separate Uber drivers refused and cancelled my rides, however this lovely man accepted and helped me out massively without any hesitation, he was so caring, kind and understanding and went out of his way to deliver my message. Thank you again Umar!

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

Being Nice

Umar had only been working with Uber for three months. Though it is not his job to deliver message to doors, he couldn’t let the concerned mother down.

“Somebody booked me for a job and she sent me a message to get to her son,” he said.

“So, I found the lad and got the message across. I said to the lady I am going to cancel the job because I don’t want to charge you for this. But she insisted on paying and still give me tip.”

Umar said: “She had booked Uber to just get a message across. Most of the Uber drivers were just cancelling the job. It is not really our job to get out of the car and knock on somebody’s door.”

He knew about the mother’s message when he started getting tagged into posts.

“Honestly, I was shocked seeing the message thanking me. I mean, I was just trying to be nice,” he said.

“The way I saw it was that I just imagined what if I was in trouble and I needed someone’s help. How would my mum feel. I just thought I needed to help her.”

Islam encourages Muslims to treat their neighbors in a gentle way that reflects the true and genuine spirit of Islam as exemplified in its tolerant aspect especially with people of other faiths.

It makes no difference whether the neighbors are Muslim or non-Muslim.
