Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) says, “The best among you are those who bring greatest benefits to many others.”

FEED THE POOR

Feeding the poor and needy is an act that draws us closer to Allah. We earn His forgiveness, mercies and blessings through this act of charity.

“Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

Mahatma Gandhi also observed “that the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

Seeking to help their community, more than 80 members of a local Muslim youth organization gathered Saturday to pack thousands of meals to those in need.

The meal pack event is a cooperative effort of Islamic Relief USA with Al Maida, a local youth-focused organization, and the nonprofit Rise Against Hunger.

“Really, it’s just a way for us to follow what our faith teaches, which is to help others irrespective of their faith,” Ali Mir, a volunteer engagement specialist for Islamic Relief, told KSL.com.

Huge Effort

The goal of the event was to package 25,000 meals that Rise Against Hunger will distribute to areas facing hunger crises. Mir said the volunteers packaged 22,000 meals in less than three hours.

“What you are giving today is invaluable,” Mir said. He traveled from Southern California for the event and said “seeing you all has warmed up our trip here.”

Samir Khan, spokesman of Al Maida organization established in 2022, said group aims to connect the Muslim community with each other while also building interfaith relationships.

“We’re trying to encourage them to do healthy activities, give back to the communities and humanitarian efforts,” Khan said.

“We’re here for a good cause,” he said.

Islam lays a great emphasis on the virtue of neighborliness. It also stresses on Muslims’ individual duty to be good to their neighbors.

Last month, Islamic Relief partnered with LFC Foundation to distribute 500 essential food packs to vulnerable people across the city.
