Muslims Around the World Mark Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday

Sanaa, YemenTens of thousands of worshippers filled the streets of Yemen’s capital on Thursday to honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The grand commemoration, led by the Houthi movement, transformed the city into a sea of green banners, chants of devotion, and heartfelt prayers. Rebel leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi addressed the massive gathering, calling on Muslims to strengthen their faith and unity.

Irbil, Iraq – Similar scenes unfolded in northern Iraq, where thousands of Kurds gathered at the historic citadel in Irbil to celebrate the occasion. Traditional drums, chants, and a giant illuminated sign bearing the Prophet’s name in Arabic set the tone for a night of reverence and festivity.

Mawlid al-Nabi, the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birth, is recognized as a public holiday across many Muslim-majority countries. Falling on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Islamic lunar calendar, the date holds deep significance, as it is believed to mark both the birth and passing of the Prophet at the age of 63.

The annual event continues to serve as a reminder of the Prophet’s enduring message of faith, compassion, and guidance for Muslims around the world.
