The event was also a memorial to Shaykh Mohammad Yousaf, who founded the event in 1981, and died in 2018.

Celebrating the special event, many of the people wore traditional clothing, with some carrying banners and waving flags.

The procession comes in the holy month of Muharram as Muslims prepare to mark Ashura.

For Muslims, `Ashura’ marks the day that Prophet Musa, peace be upon him, was saved from Egypt’s pharaoh.

Muslim scholars have agreed that it is good to fast on the day of `Ashura’, although it is not obligatory.
