Volunteers from a Preston Muslim group have visited a local care home to share `Eid Al-Fitr festivities with elderly people and give them company in this special day.
Members of Preston’s Light Foundation have been visiting the Finney House Care Home regularly for a number of years, describing their relationship as a ‘special friendship’.
“The Chief Nursing Officer for England recently said loneliness can have a devastating impact, with evidence showing that social isolation increases the risk of premature death by around a third. They advise people to keep a friendly eye on relatives, friends and neighbors,” a spokesperson for Light Foundation told Blog Preston.

“With the above advice coinciding with the advice of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), our amazing team of volunteers met, spoke to, laughed and socialized with, and provided gifts/chocolates to the often forgotten about in our communities.”
Giving out chocolate and sweets, the volunteers made special friendships and emotional gatherings with residents at the care home.
“We listened to many inspiring stories from the residents including emotional accounts and fun-filled tales about their lives,” the spokesman added.
“The staff and residents alike were delighted by our visit. We left them with smiles on their faces and were thanked for coming and making their day.”

The visit came as Muslims worldwide celebrated `Eid Al-Fitr which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
The three-day `Eid Al-Fitr festival is one of the two main religious celebrations in Islam, together with `Eid Al-Adha.
