The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially expelled the lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa.
The party leadership accused the former House of Representatives member of anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations as required by the NNPP constitution.
Announcing the decision during a press briefing in Kano on Saturday, the state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, said Jibrin’s repeated attacks on the party and its leadership through the media left the NNPP with no choice but to sanction him.

This development comes barely 24 hours after Jibrin himself hinted that it would not be surprising if he defected from the party, declaring that he was old enough to independently decide his political future.
“He Owes His Success to Kwankwasiyya” — NNPP
Reacting to Jibrin’s comments, Dungurawa described him as a “weak politician” who owed his electoral victory solely to the influence of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.
“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won under APC, but he failed. It was only after joining NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he made it to the House of Representatives. He is deceiving himself if he thinks otherwise,” Dungurawa said.
The chairman noted that a reconciliation committee was initially set up to engage Jibrin following his controversial television interview, but his subsequent remarks showed that he had gone beyond the point of reconciliation.
Expulsion Linked to Unpaid Party Dues
Dungurawa further alleged that Jibrin had defaulted in paying his mandatory party dues, stressing that the NNPP would take legal action to recover the funds.
“Every member is constitutionally required to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so. We will drag him to court to recover what he owes,” the chairman added.
Defection Speculations and Party’s Stand
On widespread speculation that Jibrin may return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the NNPP chairman said such a move would not affect the party’s strength in Kano or beyond.
He emphasized that Kwankwasiyya remains united under the leadership of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, insisting that the party is built on strong structures and collective loyalty, not individual politicians.
