Northern Governors Denounce Deadly Mosque Attack in Maiduguri

The Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) has strongly criticized the suicide bombing that occurred at the Gomboru Market Mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the incident as a heartless and reprehensible act intended to spread fear and disrupt peace.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, expressed deep sadness over the attack and sympathized with the Borno State Government and its people. He extended special condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, as well as to the families of those who lost their lives and individuals who sustained injuries.

Governor Yahaya condemned the assault on a place of worship, stating that such an act violates the sanctity of religion and offends basic human values. He emphasized that targeting innocent worshippers only strengthens the determination of Northern states to remain united against terrorism and violent extremism.

He urged security agencies and government authorities in Borno State not to be discouraged by the incident, stressing that acts of terror are designed to create panic and division. According to him, resilience and unity remain the most effective response to such threats.

The NSGF chairman called on relevant authorities to intensify security arrangements, particularly around mosques, churches, markets, and other public spaces, especially during festive periods when large crowds are expected.

Governor Yahaya reassured the people of Borno State of the unwavering support and solidarity of all Northern governors as security agencies continue efforts to prevent further attacks and restore stability across the region.

He also offered prayers for the victims, asking Almighty Allah to grant eternal rest to those who lost their lives, give comfort to their families, and bless the injured with quick recovery.

Additionally, he prayed for continued wisdom, strength, and courage for the leadership of Borno State as it confronts ongoing security challenges.

The governor reaffirmed the collective commitment of Northern states to work together in promoting peace, safeguarding lives, and ensuring that terrorism does not weaken the unity or resolve of the region.
