On a sunny spring Saturday, hundreds of people in Toowoomba came outside to enjoy the weather, taste food from around the world, and learn about Islam and Muslims in the 10th International Food Festival and Mosque Open Day.
The festival, held on Saturday, September 2, at Garden City Mosque, included stalls with food from Bosnia, Malaysia, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, and more.

“It’s good that people come here to try the food and to join in with the community,” Chef Michael said as he stood at the Bosnia food stall, The Chronicle reported.
“The mosque is for everyone.”
For former Brisbanites Robindro Chatterji and Kassadi Symonds, the festival was the perfect start at their new home in Toowoomba.
“We’ve been here four weeks, and it’s amazing,” Symonds said. “We visit a different park every weekend.”
Dr. Chatterji and Nurse Symonds moved from Brisbane to take up positions at Toowoomba Hospital.
“We’ve got a bit of food from each stall, so we’ve got a bit of everything,” Dr Chatterji said. “The food is wonderful.”
Similar events usually bring people together, sharing food and conversation.
Earlier this year, the North Carolina Muslim Festival brought hundreds of people together to build bridges with community members.
Last December, the Islamic Center of Cambridge, Ontario, invited neighbors for a fun night of games, gifts, prizes, and more in the annual Family Fun Night.
