Ramadan Charity Dinner Raises Over £9,000 for Turkey/Syria Appeal

As part of Ramadan blessings, volunteers attending a UK charity Ramadan iftar have successfully raised more than £9,000 for the Turkey and Syria earthquake appeal.

Held on Saturday, the Barakah Aid event at the Al Hamza Banqueting Hall in Accrington raised £9,458.

“It was fantastic. A special thanks to all our supporters and especially our volunteers. They have been amazing. Without them we would not have got this far,” trustee Robina Ahmed told Lancashire Telegraph.

“Barakah Aid is successful because of our volunteers. Nobody gets paid anything and we all work voluntarily from our homes.”

Sara Britcliffe MP said: “I am just astounded how much money we have managed to raise.

“I think the ladies have been fantastic not for this event but all the different fundraising they do to get money to victims for housing, for shelter and for mental health support. Just unbelievable what we have seen here today.”

Special guests at the iftar event included Vice Chairmen of the Conservative Party for Youth, The Deputy Mayor of Hyndburn Councillor Terry Hurn, wife Jean Hurn, friends Saghir Ahmed and Mohammed Yunus and Burnley Nasheed artist, Nasir Khan.

“It is wonderful. I am in awe of you all really for what you are doing for this disaster,” the Deputy Mayor of Hyndburn Councillor Terry Hurn said.

“I will be spreading the word where ever I go.”

Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, is a month of giving as well as fasting.

Generosity and charity are generally blessed in Islamic Shari`ah, however, it’s specially blessed during the month of Ramadan.

Multiplies rewards, for one thing, Ramadan is a blessed month where the rewards for all of our good deeds are multiplied.
