SIBU, Jan 31 – In response to the ongoing flood crisis in Sarawak, the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) has instructed all mosques and Friday prayer surau across the state to perform Solat Hajat (special prayers) after today’s Friday prayers. This collective prayer aims to seek divine intervention for the safety and well-being of flood victims and to ease the disaster’s impact.
This directive was officially communicated in a circular issued yesterday, signed by MIS Secretary Mual Suaud. The notice was distributed to chairpersons of Welfare Trust Boards, as well as the management committees of mosques and Friday prayer surau throughout Sarawak.
Expressing deep concern over the severe flooding, the council highlighted the widespread impact, particularly in Serian, Bintulu, and Miri, where many residents have been displaced, and significant property damage has occurred.
