Mecca, Saudi Arabia – As the Umrah season reaches its peak during Ramadan, Saudi authorities have intensified security measures by installing over 200 smart screens at Mecca’s central Control Centre. This high-tech initiative aims to streamline crowd management and enhance safety for millions of pilgrims.
The cutting-edge monitoring system allows real-time tracking of pilgrim movement, ensuring smooth entry, navigation, and exit from the holy city. Authorities emphasize that the technology plays a crucial role in swiftly identifying and responding to any potential disruptions.
The Control Centre oversees operations across 11 primary entry points into Mecca, complemented by more than eight internal security checkpoints. Security responsibilities are efficiently managed within seven dedicated sectors, facilitating seamless coordination among various teams.

Saudi officials have confirmed that all neighborhoods and districts remain under continuous surveillance. Live video feeds from multiple locations are transmitted directly to the operations room at the Grand Mosque, allowing for instant analysis of crowd density and movement patterns. This data is utilized to make real-time adjustments to security deployments.
Fully integrated with the Grand Mosque’s Security Operations Center and the Unified Operations Center (911), the Control Centre ensures rapid response capabilities through uninterrupted communication between emergency and security agencies.
