Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud signed a decree granting one billion dollars to Iraq, the Kingdom’s media reported.

KSA Minister of Trade and Investment Majid al-Qasabi said that these funds will be used to create a sports town in the Iraqi capital.
It is reported that the Saudi minister notified Iraqi President Barham Salih of the king’s gift during his trip to Riyadh.

Initially, Saudi authorities planned to build a stadium for 100 thousand spectators in Baghdad. However, later it was decided not to limit themselves to the stadium and create a full-fledged sports town in the city.
According to observers, through such steps, Riyadh seeks to win the favor of Iraq, which in recent years has increasingly focused on Iran, which is considered the main opponent of Saudi Arabia in the region.
