A Saudi mother of 19 has achieved an extraordinary academic milestone, earning her doctoral degree while managing the responsibilities of a large family.
Hamda Al Ruwaili, the proud mother of 10 sons and 9 daughters, has demonstrated remarkable determination and time management skills. Balancing her studies, career, and family, she credits meticulous planning for her success.
In an interview with Saudi TV channel Al Ekhbariya, Hamda shared that she works in an administrative role within the mental health sector and also runs an e-commerce business. Despite her busy schedule, she has managed to excel in her academic pursuits.
“In the daytime, I focus on work and taking care of my children. At night, I dedicate my time to studying and managing my business,” she explained. “I don’t like chaos, so I always organize my day carefully.”
Hamda, now in her 40s, completed her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees before the age of 43. Currently, she is in the final stages of defending her doctoral thesis.
Managing a household of 19 children was undoubtedly a challenge, but Hamda found inspiration in the structured approaches of teachers and military officers. “I view raising one child as no different from raising 10,” she said. “I address their needs, support their aspirations, and encourage their hobbies, just as a teacher or commander would handle a large group.”

Her dedication extends to her children’s education as well. Hamda proudly shared that her children consistently achieve excellent academic results, with scores of 94% or higher, and some even achieving perfect scores.
One of her daughters, a high school student, has shown exceptional talent and is supported by the King Abdulaziz Centre for the Gifted in Riyadh.
Reflecting on her journey, Hamda expressed gratitude and determination. “Despite my responsibilities as a mother of many children, I never abandoned my academic dreams. Alhamdulillah, this success was not easy, but it is the result of careful planning and unwavering family support,” she said.
Hamda’s story is a testament to perseverance, careful time management, and the power of pursuing one’s dreams, no matter the challenges.
