Musa (AS), known as Moses in the Bible, is one of the greatest prophets in Islamic tradition and is mentioned more times in the Qur’an than any other prophet. Who is Moses (Musa AS)?

He was born during a time when the Pharaoh of Egypt, a tyrannical ruler, oppressed the Israelites and ordered the killing of all newborn male children from among them. His story is one of miraculous events, divine intervention, and monumental challenges.
Early Life of Musa (AS)
Musa’s (AS) early life was marked by divine protection and intervention. According to the Qur’an:
1. Birth and Protection:
His mother, fearing for his life, was inspired by Allah to place him in a basket and set it afloat on the Nile River. Allah promised her that Musa would be returned to her and that he would have a great mission ahead.
“We inspired the mother of Moses, ‘Suckle him and when you fear for him, cast him into the river and do not fear nor grieve. Indeed, We will return him to you and will make him one of the messengers.’”
(Surah Al-Qasas, 28:7)
2. Adoption by Pharaoh’s Family:
The basket was found by Pharaoh’s wife, Asiyah, who, against Pharaoh’s wishes, adopted the child and raised him as her own. This marked the beginning of Musa’s upbringing in the palace of the very ruler who sought to kill him.
3. Reunion with His Mother:
By Allah’s decree, Musa’s (AS) mother was brought to the palace as his wet nurse, fulfilling Allah’s promise to her.
The Journey of Prophethood

- The Incident in Egypt:
One day, Musa (AS) intervened in a fight between an Israelite and an Egyptian. In the process, he accidentally killed the Egyptian. Fearing for his life, he fled Egypt and sought refuge in Madyan. - In Madyan:
In Madyan, Musa (AS) found a new home. He married the daughter of Prophet Shu’ayb (AS) and worked as a shepherd for several years. This period of seclusion prepared him for the monumental task ahead. - Divine Encounter at Mount Sinai:
While traveling with his family, Musa (AS) witnessed a mysterious fire on Mount Sinai. When he approached it, Allah spoke to him for the first time, granting him prophethood and commanding him to confront Pharaoh and demand the liberation of the Children of Israel.
“Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.”

Confrontation with Pharaoh
Musa (AS), armed with the support of his brother Harun (Aaron), returned to Egypt to deliver Allah’s message to Pharaoh. Despite witnessing numerous signs and miracles, Pharaoh and his court remained obstinate and rejected the message.
