The skyline of Blackburn has been enhanced with the recent installation of two striking minarets atop one of the town’s most significant mosque projects in recent years.
Located on Preston New Road, the new mosque is set to serve as a central place of worship for residents of the surrounding area, including those from neighboring estates like Beardwood.
This ambitious project, which commenced in 2021, is being funded by billionaire brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa through their charitable organization, the Issa Foundation.

Construction continues at a steady pace, with significant progress visible. Recent developments include the completion of landscaping around the mosque and the installation of windows, while this week saw workers actively engaged on the roof.
For much of the construction period, the mosque remained obscured from the main road, but its grand structure is now becoming more prominent.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the mosque complex will incorporate solar panels on both the main building and its associated office spaces, emphasizing an eco-friendly approach.

Situated near the top of Buncer Lane, the mosque is directly opposite St Silas Church, one of Blackburn’s most historic landmarks. The site previously housed buildings belonging to Westholme School, which were demolished to make way for this new development, first announced in December 2020.
Initially approved in mid-2021, the project was estimated to cost £5 million, though it remains unclear whether the final expenditure has stayed within budget.
Once completed, this will be the seventh mosque within walking distance of the area, helping to accommodate the growing local Muslim community while addressing issues related to congestion, traffic, and parking during peak prayer times.
