Tinubu Condemns Boko Haram Killings, Deploys Troops to Kwara

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the killing of innocent villagers by Boko Haram insurgents in parts of Kwara State and has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to restore security in the affected area.

The President directed that troops be sent to Kaiama Local Government Area following deadly attacks on the Woro and Nuku communities, where residents were reportedly murdered for resisting extremist indoctrination by the terrorists.

The directive was disclosed on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the newly deployed battalion would lead Operation Savannah Shield, a military initiative aimed at neutralising insurgent threats and safeguarding vulnerable rural communities.

According to the statement, President Tinubu expressed deep anger over the brutal killings, noting that the victims were targeted because they rejected extremist teachings and chose to practice a peaceful and moderate form of Islam.

“The President was outraged that law-abiding citizens were murdered simply for refusing to embrace violent extremism,” the statement read. “Their commitment to a faith rooted in peace, tolerance, and coexistence reflects the true values of Islam.”

Tinubu also commended the courage of the affected communities, describing their refusal to align with extremist ideology as a powerful rejection of violence and coercion.

Security agencies have been instructed to work closely with local authorities to prevent further attacks and ensure lasting peace in the region, as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to curb insurgency across the country.
