At least two people have been confirmed dead following a violent clash that erupted over the leadership of the Central Mosque in Donga, a local community in Taraba State.
According to local sources, the unrest broke out on Tuesday after a dispute within the Muslim community regarding who should serve as the Imam of the Donga Central Mosque, located directly in front of the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Donga Chiefdom.
Witnesses told Islam Religion Guardian that the disagreement, which initially started as a verbal argument, quickly escalated into violence, leading to the loss of lives, multiple injuries, and destruction of properties within the area.
Security forces, including military personnel, have reportedly been deployed to Donga to calm the tension and prevent further escalation.
Efforts to reach the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Leshen James, for official comments were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to his phone were not responded to at the time of filing this report.
The situation remains tense, though residents say calm is gradually returning with the presence of security operatives on ground.
