The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated an in-depth investigation following a tragic explosion that claimed two lives and injured two others at the Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School, located in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council. The incident occurred on January 6, 2025.
Preliminary police reports indicate that three individuals, reportedly from Katsina, visited the school’s proprietor, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and allegedly brought with them an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
The device accidentally detonated on the school’s veranda while being tampered with, resulting in the deaths of two of the visitors. Another man, along with a female trader nearby, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing medical treatment under police supervision.

The FCT Bomb Squad has confirmed that the explosion was caused by an IED. Fragments of the explosive device were recovered from the scene, further substantiating this conclusion.
The owner of the Islamic school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, has been taken into custody by authorities for further questioning.
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, provided details about the swift response to the incident: “Upon receiving an urgent report from the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, police operatives, including a specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, were immediately deployed to the scene. The area was secured to ensure public safety and allow for a detailed investigation.”
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has called on the public to remain alert and report any unusual activities or suspicious objects that could pose a threat.
As part of a broader safety campaign, residents are being advised to exercise caution, avoid tampering with unfamiliar items, and work closely with law enforcement to maintain a secure community.
