In a recent statement, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a US-based Muslim advocacy group, has expressed its strong disapproval of the White House’s position on the ongoing civilian casualties in Gaza resulting from Israeli airstrikes. CAIR condemns the “no red line” stance taken by White House representative John Kirby, which they believe empowers the Israeli government to intensify their military operations against civilian targets.
CAIR’s government affairs director, Robert McCaw, criticized Kirby’s assertion that there are no “red lines” or specific limits to the number of civilian casualties that would lead the US to withdraw its support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza. McCaw emphasized the impact of such declarations on the Israeli government’s actions, which have included targeting refugee camps, apartment buildings, bakeries, ambulances, and places of worship.
McCaw urged Admiral Kirby and the White House to recognize the humanity of Palestinians and called for an end to US involvement in what CAIR views as an ongoing attempt at genocide by Netanyahu’s government, asserting that Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to war crimes being committed with American taxpayer dollars and support.
The current conflict in Gaza began when the Palestinian resistance group Hamas initiated a cross-border attack on October 7, leading to continuous air and ground assaults by Israel. The toll on Palestinian lives has been devastating, with at least 10,569 Palestinians killed, including 4,324 children and 2,823 women. On the Israeli side, official figures report a death toll of nearly 1,600. The situation remains a matter of deep concern and international debate.
