The United States reiterated its disappointment due to the decision of the Turkish government to convert Hagia Sophia into a mosque, which formally occurred in Constantinople on Friday, in a statement on online Hellas Journal outlet.

Describing the UNESCO World Heritage monument “a remarkable building” and “a testament to religious expression, and artistic and technical genius,” the US State Department called on Turkey to maintain its legacy.

Feeding the poor and needy is an act that draws us closer to Allah. We earn His forgiveness, mercies and blessings through this act of charity.

“Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah?s cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night. (Bukhari)

The State Department’s full statement follows: “As we have said previously, the United States is disappointed by the Government of Turkey’s decision to change the status of the Hagia Sophia from a museum to a mosque.
