The founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Klaus Schwab, has complained about a “conspiracy theory” surrounding his book “Covid-19: The Great Reset”.

“Anyone who reads this book will see that it is an analysis of the consequences of the pandemic that reveals fundamental trends, and not a recipe book for a total surveillance state or a Marxist system,” writes Schwab in the current edition of Swiss weekly Weltwoche. Schwab is clearly worried about a backlash.
The term “reset” had been “maliciously interpreted as a deliberate total transformation of society” by some critics, he complained. “We have all reset our laptops before and know that we are not initiating a completely new program, but that we are giving the existing program the opportunity to reorganize itself.”
This is apparently needed when planning the post-corona period. “Not a revolutionary, new world order, but an adjustment of politics in order to cope with the challenges of the pandemic and its long-term negative consequences,” he said.
“Conspiracy apostles on the left will concentrate on the word ‘capitalism’ and forge a legend out of it that in the end I am an arch-capitalist who wraps a fig leaf around myself with the stakeholders. Those on the far right will mind the stakeholders and fuel the conspiracy theory that I am a Marxist in disguise. My aim is to show how social responsibility and a free market economy can be combined.”
Schwab obviously believes that the harsh censorship enacted against conservatives by tech giants have made it more difficult to peddle his brand of snake oil. These conspiracies “are a danger to democracy’, he complained. To combat them, one should not focus on the symptoms, but on the causes. Nevertheless, freedom of expression and disagreement would have to be accepted “even if we consider certain opinions to be absurd. We must not suppress the mouthpieces of this freedom of expression – like Twitter, Facebook and Co. – if we assume that all citizens are of age and have freedom of choice”.
In the Weltwoche contribution, the 82-year-old warned that conspiracy theories would infect society and undermine trust in everything “that is established, not only in the elites, but also in parties and institutions”.
The book “Covid-19: The Great Reset” was published shortly after the first peak of the Corona pandemic in July 2020. In the foreword it says that a normal state should and will never be again. “Many of us worry about when things will return to normal,” writes Schwab. “The short answer is: never. Nothing will ever bring back the ‘broken’ feeling of normalcy that prevailed before the crisis, as the Coronavirus pandemic marks a fundamental turning point in our global development. ”
Schwab is considered an advocate of so-called stakeholder capitalism. The text on the WEF’s website states that it is not only private ownership that will be abolished in the new utopia, or dystopia depending on who you ask, but there will also be no privacy.
Schwab is counted among the most active supporters of transhumanist ideas: “The fourth industrial revolution will lead to a merging of our physical, digital and biological identities,” Schwab declared in a speech to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in 2019.
