CAIR Denounces West Bank Mosque Arson, Criticizes U.S. Silence on American’s Killing

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, has strongly condemned a recent arson attack on a mosque in the occupied West Bank. The group also criticized what it described as a lack of response from U.S. authorities following the killing of an American citizen by Israeli settlers days earlier.

Mosque Targeted in West Bank Arson Incident

According to reports from the Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, Israeli settlers allegedly vandalized a mosque in the town of Tell in the occupied West Bank during the early hours of Monday. The attackers reportedly set parts of the mosque on fire and spray-painted offensive and inflammatory messages on the building’s walls.

Local officials described the act as a deliberate provocation, particularly as it occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, a period of heightened religious significance for Muslims worldwide. Damage assessments are ongoing, and community leaders have called for accountability and protection of religious sites.

Killing of American Citizen Raises Concerns

The arson attack comes just days after the reported killing of an American citizen from Philadelphia in the same region. The victim was allegedly killed by Israeli settlers, sparking outrage among advocacy groups and community members in the United States.

CAIR expressed deep concern over what it characterized as a pattern of violence and the absence of decisive action from U.S. officials regarding the death of the American national.

CAIR Calls for U.S. Government Action

In a public statement, CAIR condemned both the mosque attack and the killing, asserting that continued U.S. political and financial support for Israel has emboldened extremist actions by settlers.

The organization urged the U.S. administration to address the situation directly, calling for accountability in cases involving violence against civilians, including American citizens, as well as attacks on religious institutions.

CAIR further emphasized the importance of safeguarding houses of worship and upholding international human rights standards in conflict-affected regions.

Growing Tensions in the Region

The incident adds to mounting tensions in the occupied West Bank, where clashes and settler-related violence have drawn increasing international attention. Human rights groups have repeatedly warned about the escalation of attacks targeting Palestinian communities and religious sites.

As investigations continue, advocacy organizations are pressing for transparent inquiries and meaningful diplomatic engagement to prevent further violence.
